Job Overview

The Commercial Manager will play a pivotal role in leading the commercial aspects of a major, commercial-scale construction project to build a long-duration energy storage facility in Scotland.

As a seasoned professional with extensive experience in project commercial management, you will be responsible for managing the commercial teams and ensuring effective contractor management, subcontract procurement, cost management, and contractual compliance.


Key Responsibilities
  • Commercial Team Leadership:
    • Lead a team of experienced professionals to manage the commercial aspects of the project.
    • Develop and implement strategies to ensure timely completion of project milestones.
    • Provide mentorship, coaching, and support to team members to foster their growth and development.
  • Contractor Management:
    • Oversee the management of two construction contractors operating under NEC forms of contract.
    • Monitor contractor performance, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations, timelines, and quality standards.
    • Review and make recommendations to senior project leadership on early warnings, compensation events, project manager instructions, etc.
  • Subcontract Procurement:
    • Develop and execute subcontract procurement strategies to ensure all subcontract packages are tendered, negotiated, and awarded in a timely manner and in accordance with company procedures.
    • Ensure that subcontractors meet project timelines, quality standards, and health & safety requirements.
    • Manage the payment application process for subcontractors, including accurate progress measurement and timely issuance of payment certifications, payless notices, etc.
  • Cost Management & Reporting:
    • Work closely with the Project Controls team to ensure accurate cost management and reporting, including the preparation of regular cost reports, cash flow forecasts, and budget monitoring.
    • Identify cost overruns and work closely with the project team to implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Stakeholder Communication:
    • Provide regular updates to senior stakeholders on commercial performance, risks, and opportunities.
    • Develop and maintain good working relationships with various stakeholders, including contractors, senior management, and suppliers.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Contribute to the development of the organization's culture and values.
    • Support the implementation of procedural improvements and introduce a compliance audit programme.
    • Provide commercial awareness training to project-based staff members.
