Job Overview:

The Commercial Manager will oversee the commercial aspects of a construction project to build a long-duration energy storage facility in Scotland.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Project Commercial Management:
    • Lead the commercial management of contractors operating under NEC forms of contract.
    • Monitor contractor performance, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations, timelines, and quality standards.
    • Review and make recommendations on early warnings, compensation events, project manager instructions, etc.
    • Manage the variation process, change orders, and ensure disputes are minimized and resolved effectively.
    • Oversee the payment application process, including accurate progress measurement and timely issuance of payment certifications, payless notices, etc.
  • Subcontract Procurement:
    • Oversee subcontract procurement strategies, ensuring all packages are tendered, negotiated, and awarded in a timely manner.
    • Ensure subcontractors meet project timelines, quality standards, and health & safety requirements.
    • Oversee and manage subcontract payment applications.
  • Team Leadership & Resource Management:
    • Lead a team of Subcontract and Quantity Surveyor personnel.
    • Foster a collaborative environment across the commercial team.
    • Provide mentorship and support to team members.
  • Cost Management & Reporting:
    • Work closely with Project Controls to ensure accurate cost management and reporting.
    • Identify cost overruns and implement corrective actions as necessary.
    • Ensure potential commercial risks are identified and mitigated promptly.
  • Contractual & Legal Compliance:
    • Ensure full adherence to contracts, focusing on avoiding disputes and ensuring contractual compliance.
    • Work closely with the legal team to review and negotiate contract terms, manage claims, and resolve issues.
    • Develop good working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Stakeholder Communication & Reporting:
    • Provide regular updates on commercial performance, risks, and opportunities.
    • Liaise with project directors and senior management to address commercial challenges.
  • General Functional Activity:
    • Ensure policies and procedures remain fit for purpose and reflect current requirements.
    • Support the implementation of procedural improvements and introduce a compliance audit programme.
    • Establish and maintain commercial reporting structures.
