Job Title: SQL Database Administrator

Talent Journey is helping a fast-growing start-up harness the full potential of their information to make smarter, faster decisions.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining SQL Server environments on-premise and in AWS, ensuring data availability, security, and performance across multiple environments.

  • Administering, maintaining, and optimising SQL Server databases (2016+)
  • Migrating and managing SQL databases in AWS (RDS, EC2-hosted SQL, etc.)
  • Ensuring high availability and disaster recovery (HA/DR) configurations
  • Monitoring and tuning database performance using native and third-party tools
  • Developing and implementing database backup strategies and recovery plans
  • Collaborating with DevOps and application teams to support CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) practices
  • Designing, managing, and optimising Snowflake data warehouses in a production environment
  • Implementing security controls and maintaining compliance with internal/external standards
Requirements:

To succeed in this role, you must have:

  • 5+ years of experience as a SQL DBA in production environments
  • Strong experience with AWS RDS, EC2, S3, CloudWatch, and related services
  • Proficiency in T-SQL, PowerShell, and database performance tuning
  • Hands-on experience with Snowflake in a production environment (data loading, performance tuning, role-based access, etc.)
  • Experience with backup/recovery tools and strategies
  • Familiarity with infrastructure automation (Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar)
  • Knowledge of database security best practices
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
