Expert Pain Management Consultant

This role is designed for experienced registered nurses who wish to develop their expertise in pain management. As an expert consultant, you will provide leadership and clinical advice to healthcare professionals, patients, and families in managing chronic and acute pain.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert leadership, clinical guidance, consultancy services, care planning, and education to health care professionals, patients, and families.
  • Deliver high-quality services, practicing as a member of the multidisciplinary team in pain management, including chronic and acute pain, ranging from preoperative and postoperative pain management to procedural pain, trauma, and disease-related pain, predominantly within the perioperative and inpatient setting.
  • Act as a resource to other health care professionals and services to enhance capability, knowledge, and delivery of pain management services, including pain assessment and management strategies.
  • Develop specialised education resources for pain management for patients and their families.
Requirements:
  • Current Authority to Practise as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • At least 5 years full-time equivalent post-registration clinical experience, including 3 years' experience in the specialty, and postgraduate qualifications relevant to the specialty.
  • Demonstrated effective communication, including verbal, written, interpersonal skills, ability to negotiate resolutions and manage conflict, and advanced information technology skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively both independently and as part of the multidisciplinary healthcare team while prioritising and managing own workload.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead quality improvement, practice development, and evidence-based practice.
  • Demonstrated extensive clinical expertise and clinical leadership in chronic and acute pain management.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify education needs and develop education plans and resource material for patients/clients and healthcare professionals.
  • Current licence to drive in NSW with the ability to drive for work purposes, including occasional long distances and overnight stays.
