Clinical Nurse Consultant Role Overview

Clinical nurse consultants play a pivotal role in providing expert leadership, clinical advice, consultancy services, care planning and education to healthcare professionals, patients and families in pain management.

This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to high-quality care delivery as part of a multidisciplinary team focused on pain management. You will work collaboratively with colleagues to provide evidence-based practice, improve patient outcomes and enhance the capability of healthcare professionals in pain assessment and management strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert leadership, clinical guidance, consultancy services, care planning and education to healthcare professionals, patients and families in pain management.">
  • Deliver high-quality service as part of the multidisciplinary team in pain management, covering chronic and acute pain (pre-operative, post-operative, procedural, trauma and disease-related pain) predominantly within perioperative and inpatient settings.">
  • Act as a resource to other healthcare professionals and services to enhance their capability, knowledge and delivery of pain management services including pain assessment and management strategies.">
  • Develop specialized education resources for pain management for patients and their families.">

Qualifications and Experience:

  • ">
  • Current authority to practise as a registered nurse with the relevant nursing registration body. At least 5 years full-time equivalent post-registration clinical experience, including 3 years in the specialty and relevant postgraduate qualifications.">
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills, including verbal and written skills, interpersonal ability, negotiation and conflict resolution, and advanced information technology skills.">
  • Proven ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, prioritizing and managing workload.">
  • Demonstrated ability to lead quality improvement, practice development and evidence-based practice.">
  • Extensive clinical expertise and leadership in chronic and acute pain management.">
  • Ability to identify education needs and develop education plans and resource material for patients/clients and healthcare professionals.">
  • Current driver's license with the ability to drive for work purposes, including occasional long distances and overnight stays.">
