Metabolic Psychologist Role

The role of a Metabolic Psychologist is to support consumers in decisions for bariatric surgery, working with other psychologists and dietitians. The Metabolic Psychologist works across inpatient and outpatient settings and across all age ranges, utilising a broad range of clinical skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assessment of readiness for bariatric surgery
  • Individual or group interventions to support patients in decisions regarding their metabolic journey
  • Case discussions with Nutrition & Dietetics and other Psychologists

Working Environment:

The Metabolic Psychologist is part of the Allied Health led Metabolic clinic. The psychology team is small but experienced, with a broad range of treatment modalities. The team upholds the Hospitals North CARE (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence) values, promoting work life balance, professional development, and a varied case mix.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Tertiary qualification/program approved by the Psychology Board of Australia
  • Registered with the Psychology Board of Australia

Desirable Criteria:

  • Significant professional experience in complex medical environments providing psychological services for patients with metabolic/bariatric needs
  • Endorsement by the Psychology Board of Australia as Health Psychologist, Clinical Psychologist, or Clinical Neuropsychologist
  • Postgraduate degree in Health Psychology, Clinical Psychology or Clinical Neuropsychology
