Job Title:

Counsellor - Aboriginal Sexual Assault Services

About the Role:

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a trauma-informed, supportive and integrated service providing specialist therapeutic and case management services to child, adolescent and adult victims of sexual assault and their non-offending family members. The successful candidate will be responsible for the provision of crisis counselling & support and facilitation of forensic/medical services as required.

Key Responsibilities:
  • To provide specialist therapeutic and case management services to clients who have experienced sexual assault;
  • To develop and maintain strong relationships with local and community-based organisations that support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities;
  • To contribute to the development of policies, procedures and guidelines that support the delivery of culturally safe and effective services to clients;
  • To participate in clinical supervision, professional development and training to enhance skills and knowledge;
  • To collaborate with other service providers to ensure a coordinated response to clients' needs.
Requirements:

The successful candidate will require:

  • A tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology or Counselling;
  • Eligibility for appropriate professional registration or association membership;
  • Demonstrated experience in complex trauma and trauma-informed practice, preferably within a Violence, Abuse & Neglect (VAN) setting;
  • Demonstrated assessment and case management skills with children, young people and adults;
  • Demonstrated understanding of the inter-related dynamics and effects of sexual assault, physical abuse and neglect and domestic violence;
  • Demonstrated understanding of intergenerational trauma and the principles of cultural safety;
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills;
  • Valid unrestricted drivers' licence for use in NSW;
  • Willingness to travel in the course of employment.
