Counsellor - Aboriginal Sexual Assault Services
About the Role:This is an exciting opportunity to work in a trauma-informed, supportive and integrated service providing specialist therapeutic and case management services to child, adolescent and adult victims of sexual assault and their non-offending family members. The successful candidate will be responsible for the provision of crisis counselling & support and facilitation of forensic/medical services as required.
Key Responsibilities:- To provide specialist therapeutic and case management services to clients who have experienced sexual assault;
- To develop and maintain strong relationships with local and community-based organisations that support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities;
- To contribute to the development of policies, procedures and guidelines that support the delivery of culturally safe and effective services to clients;
- To participate in clinical supervision, professional development and training to enhance skills and knowledge;
- To collaborate with other service providers to ensure a coordinated response to clients' needs.
The successful candidate will require:
- A tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology or Counselling;
- Eligibility for appropriate professional registration or association membership;
- Demonstrated experience in complex trauma and trauma-informed practice, preferably within a Violence, Abuse & Neglect (VAN) setting;
- Demonstrated assessment and case management skills with children, young people and adults;
- Demonstrated understanding of the inter-related dynamics and effects of sexual assault, physical abuse and neglect and domestic violence;
- Demonstrated understanding of intergenerational trauma and the principles of cultural safety;
- Demonstrated interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills;
- Valid unrestricted drivers' licence for use in NSW;
- Willingness to travel in the course of employment.
