Aboriginal Sexual Assault Counsellor Role

This critical position within the Integrated Violence Prevention & Response Service (IVPRS) at Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) requires a highly skilled and dedicated individual to provide specialist therapeutic and case management services to child, adolescent, and adult victims of sexual assault and their non-offending family members.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Deliver expert sexual assault counselling, case management, and crisis care in a trusted community-led role.
  • Collaborate with IVPRS and the Aboriginal Health Hub to establish trust and build relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and violence, abuse, and neglect services in WSLHD.
  • Support and empower Aboriginal clients through collaborative networks at local and state levels.
Essential Qualifications:
  • Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, or Counselling.
  • Registration: Eligibility for appropriate professional registration or association membership.
  • Evidence of Diversity claim: Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and being accepted in the community as such.
  • Demonstrated experience in complex trauma and trauma-informed practice, preferably within a Violence, Abuse & Neglect (e.g. sexual assault, child protection, or domestic violence) or related setting.
  • Demonstrated assessment and case management skills with children, young people, and adults.
  • Demonstrated understanding of intergenerational trauma and the principles of cultural safety.
  • Valid unrestricted drivers' license for use in NSW and willingness to travel in the course of employment.
