Aboriginal Sexual Assault Counsellor Role

Join NSW Health to provide specialist therapeutic and case management services to child, adolescent and adult victims of sexual assault.

This role is part of the Integrated Violence Prevention & Response Service (IVPRS) at Western Sydney Local Health District.

  • Assist with establishing trust and building relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and violence, abuse and neglect services.
  • Work closely with IVPRS and the Aboriginal Health Hub to support clients with expert sexual assault counselling, case management & crisis care in a trusted, community-led role.

As an Aboriginal Sexual Assault Counsellor, you will work in a trauma-informed service with access to ongoing education and training as part of a professional development plan.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide specialist therapeutic and case management services to child, adolescent and adult victims of sexual assault.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, including networks at local & state levels.
  • Develop and implement effective strategies for supporting clients who have experienced trauma and abuse.

Requirements include tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology or Counselling, registration eligibility for appropriate professional registration or association membership, evidence of Diversity claim: Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.

Essential Criteria includes Qualification: Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology or Counselling, Registration: Eligibility for appropriate professional registration or association membership, Evidence of Diversity claim: Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.

Selection Criteria:
  • Experience in complex trauma and trauma informed practice.
  • Demonstrated assessment and case management skills with children, young people and adults.
  • Understanding of intergenerational trauma and principles of cultural safety.
