About The Emergency Department

The Emergency Department serves approximately 85,000 patients per year, with around 20% being paediatric patients. The inpatient admission rate is around 33%. Our team aims to assess, manage and admit patients from a broad range of specialities within the targets set by the Department of Health.

About The Role

As a Comprehensive Patient Care Specialist, you will provide a comprehensive service assessing, managing and coordinating patients from presentation through to discharge or advocating for admission when necessary. You will work closely with the Nursing and Allied Health Departments to support this position professionally.

  • You will self-identify patients who require an assessment and respond to patient referrals from other clinicians within the ED and SSU environments.
  • You will provide a rapid assessment of functional/occupational performance status and evaluate the impact of disease processes in relation to task performance and treatment service to patients within the Emergency Department.
  • You will supervise students as required and inform staff of the role of the Care Coordination team as necessary.
  • You will attend relevant seminars, lectures and in-service education programs.

  • You will hold an appropriate tertiary qualification in Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy or Registered Nursing.
  • You will be able to assess functional, cognitive and psychosocial needs of person and family and determine appropriate intervention.
  • You will have excellent knowledge of or ability to develop an excellent knowledge and working relationship with extensive community resources within the region.
  • You will be able to evaluate generic health interventions.
