Job Overview
The Clinical Documentation Specialist will lead and manage the coding team, ensuring accurate and consistent clinical documentation practices.
About The Role
This position requires a highly skilled and experienced Clinical Coder who can conduct regular audits, provide education and training, and monitor coder performance.
The successful candidate will have excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to educate clinicians on clinical documentation improvement, DRG and activity-based funding strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive clinical documentation audits to identify areas of improvement
- Lead and provide ongoing education and training to support team growth and professional development
- Prepare and deliver educational activities to the coding team
- Educate clinicians on clinical documentation improvement best practices, DRG classification systems, and activity-based funding models
- Timely and accurate completion of clinical documentation using standardized tools and protocols; adhere to established guidelines for clinical documentation when interpreting documentation for coding purposes
Requirements
- Bachelor of Health Information Management (or equivalent tertiary qualification) or Clinical Coding certification
- Demonstrated auditing experience in a tertiary healthcare setting with sound knowledge of audit processes and data integrity principles
- Minimum of 3-5 years clinical coding experience in abstracting and coding across a wide case mix in a private or public healthcare facility
- Sound understanding of Australian and NSW clinical documentation standards
- Knowledge of developing, designing, and implementing training programs for coders and clinical documentation specialists
