Clinical Coding and Education Specialist Role

The Clinical Coding and Education Specialist plays a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy and quality of clinical coding practices within our organization. This position involves conducting regular audits to identify areas for improvement, providing ongoing education to support team growth, and educating clinicians on clinical documentation best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough coding audits to identify opportunities for enhancement and implement strategies to improve coding accuracy.
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive coding education programs to support team development and professional growth.
  • Educate clinicians on optimal clinical documentation practices, including ICD-10-AM, ACHI, and Diagnosis Related Groups (DRGs).
  • Timely and accurate completion of clinical coding using established coding standards and guidelines.

About You

  • Bachelor of Health Information Management or equivalent tertiary qualification, or Clinical Coding qualification, or completion of Clinical coding auditing course, with eligibility for full membership of relevant professional associations.
  • Demonstrated auditing experience in a healthcare setting with expertise in audit processes and data integrity.
  • Minimum 3-5 years coding experience across diverse case mixes in hospitals or health facilities.
  • Solid understanding of Australian and NSW coding standards.
  • Familiarity with developing training programs for coders and clinical documentation improvement recommendations.
  • High-level technical and analytical skills for data analysis and reporting.
  • Strong grasp of NSW policy and funding guidelines, as well as the NSW Admitted Episodes Dataset.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Absolute discretion in handling confidential information and commitment to Privacy principles.
