Manager of Legal and Compliance Operations
A prominent organization in the logistics sector is in search of a seasoned Manager of Legal and Compliance Operations. This role is pivotal in ensuring that the organization adheres to all legal standards and compliance regulations.
Contract Type: Permanent
Start Date: Immediate (consideration for notice periods)
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 40 hours weekly
Compensation: Competitive salary in the range of Low - Mid $200k, based on expertise
Key Responsibilities:
Reporting directly to the General Counsel / General Manager of Governance & Assurance, the incumbent will be tasked with delivering comprehensive legal and compliance guidance, managing legal disputes, and overseeing the drafting and evaluation of contracts and other legal documents. The Manager of Legal and Compliance Operations will collaborate with internal teams to navigate legislative and compliance changes, ensuring alignment and effective resolution of issues to enhance operational efficiency.
Primary Duties Include:

  • Conducting research and preparing legal documents, including commercial contracts.
  • Offering targeted legal advice across various business sectors, including agreements, property, workplace safety, projects, environmental matters, disputes, and external relations.
  • Leading and strategizing for litigation, claims, and dispute resolution.
  • Providing practical legal insights, including the interpretation and application of relevant laws.
  • Overseeing investigations into significant incidents and managing compliance reporting to regulatory bodies.
  • Maintaining relationships with external legal firms.
  • Contributing to the compliance framework, including the development and upkeep of legislation registers, compliance education, and accountability allocation.
  • Reporting legal updates to the Board and relevant Sub-Committees.
  • Managing team performance, including setting objectives and operational plans to meet corporate targets.
  • Filling in for the General Counsel / General Manager during their absence.

Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • Degree in Law.
  • Legal practicing certificate with a minimum of 8 years of post-qualification experience and in-house legal background.
  • Thorough understanding of legislative and compliance frameworks.
  • Significant experience in governance principles and their application in a corporate context.
  • Strong leadership capabilities with a history of managing legal teams.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with experience in drafting policies, procedures, and reports.
  • Experience in sectors such as ports, maritime, construction, property, disputes, and projects is advantageous.
