Therapeutic Foster Care Specialist
This role offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable children and young people. By working intensively with carers and children, you will help create lasting change and support them as they navigate life's challenges.
The position is part of a small therapeutic team within an Out of Home Care program, designed to provide specialized support to children who have experienced complex trauma and disrupted attachments. You will be responsible for helping these young people develop stability and permanency through healing-focused case management practices.
This full-time, fixed-term parental leave opportunity is based in Preston and reports to the Home Based Care Coordinator. As a Therapeutic Foster Care Specialist, your key responsibility will be to work closely with carers, children, and other professionals to achieve positive outcomes and provide exceptional support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized care plans that address the unique needs and goals of each child or young person.
- Provide expert guidance and support to carers, focusing on trauma-informed care practices and strategies for promoting attachment and resilience.
- Collaborate with other professionals, such as therapists and medical specialists, to ensure comprehensive support and coordination of services.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of care plans, making adjustments as needed to optimize outcomes.
- Participate in regular supervision and training opportunities to maintain expertise and stay up-to-date with best practices.
Requirements:
- A tertiary qualification in Psychology, Social Work, or a related field is essential.
- Training and experience in relevant child, adolescent, and family practice, as well as case management, are highly desirable.
- Evidence of a well-developed understanding of Attachment and Trauma theories, including their relationship to child abuse and neglect, intellectual disability, and NDIS policies.
- Extensive experience in working with vulnerable children, young people, and families in a trauma-informed manner, including familiarity with the out of home care service system.
- A knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and values, as well as awareness of current issues faced by Aboriginal children, young people, and their families.
Benefits:
- A dynamic and supportive work environment that fosters collaboration and professional growth.
- Ongoing training and development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge.
- The satisfaction of making a tangible difference in the lives of vulnerable children and young people.
- A competitive salary package, including benefits and remuneration that reflects your experience and qualifications.
