The Opportunity

Role Context

Berry Street has implemented the Teaching Family Model (TFM) as part of a holistic approach to supporting young people in out of home care. Residential Care staff are trained in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI). As a Therapeutic Specialist you will work closely with young people and the Residential Care team to facilitate reflective practice and build knowledge of therapeutic parenting strategies, enabling a therapeutic care environment. Spending significant time at the home to coach, model and engage in informal therapeutic conversations with staff and young people will be required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical assessment, consultancy and therapeutic support to the Berry Street Southern Therapeutic Residential Care program.
  • Conduct assessments and develop therapeutic treatment plans with client and care team, with clear goals reviewed regularly.
  • Collaborate with the client and care team to achieve agreed goals within a specified time frame.
  • Work with the Teaching Family Model consultant to support staff, provide training, and implement the model in a tailored approach for each child.
  • Assist residential staff to incorporate the model in a therapeutic manner.

  • A high degree of self-discipline with the ability to provide targeted clinical services within strict timeframes
Qualifications and Experience

You will have a demonstrated ability to provide a high standard of complex direct service in the clinical assessment and treatment of children, young people and families; and to meet service delivery outputs and outcomes. An appropriate Bachelor degree in a Health or Welfare related field (e.g., Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Social Work, Family Therapy, Speech Pathology) or related discipline is required, with significant clinical experience with children (minimum 5 years).
