National Organiser - Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Policy

This role supports the work of the nationally elected NTEU Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Policy Committee, focusing on industrial and social justice issues affecting Indigenous Australians.

The successful applicant will have experience in organising and a strong understanding of tertiary education, particularly in universities. They will be actively engaged in their community, possess excellent communication skills and work effectively with diverse stakeholders.

  • Support the nationally elected NTEU Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Policy Committee
  • Advocate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander industrial and social justice issues
  • Member recruitment and campaign organisation
  • Educate members on Indigenous higher education policy, industrial relations and training activities

This is a dynamic role involving community engagement, collaboration with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Coordinator and may require interstate travel.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Supporting committee meetings and national events
  2. Developing and implementing campaigns to advance Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander interests
  3. Collaborating with the Coordinator to develop training programs and resources
  4. Producing a monthly newsletter highlighting Indigenous higher education policy and related initiatives

As a key member of the team, you will work closely with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Coordinator and contribute to the development of policies and strategies that promote equity and inclusion in higher education.
