About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Azure Database Performance Engineer to join our Database Operations team at State Street. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance and availability of our Microsoft SQL Server databases in Azure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and optimize database performance, identifying bottlenecks and implementing query tuning to improve efficiency.
  • Collaborate with application teams to resolve database-related issues and ensure high availability, replication, and scalability.
  • Develop and maintain technical standards and procedures to ensure database performance, security, and integrity.
  • Provide expert-level support to application development teams, assisting with database design and troubleshooting.
  • Participate in root-cause analysis and contribute to corrective and preventative actions to resolve priority incidents.
  • Work closely with the Database Manager and other teams to optimize database performance and reliability.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • 6-8 years of experience working with large MS SQL Server databases in a 24x7x365 production environment.
  • Strong performance tuning experience, using tools like SolarWinds, Query Store, and Extended Events.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience operating MS SQL servers and related technologies in Azure.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong sense of customer service and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Azure certifications (e.g. DP-300, DP-900, AZ-900 Exam).
  • Experience with Snowflake and other cloud-based database technologies.
  • ITIL concepts and practices.
