Job Title: Senior Cloud Oracle Database Engineer

Are you a skilled Cloud Oracle Database Engineer looking for a new challenge? We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Cloud Oracle Database Engineer to join our team at Jenny Barbour IT & Project Recruitment.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Cloud Oracle Database Engineer to design, deliver, and run Database Services for our client's public cloud providers. The successful candidate will be responsible for the operation of Cloud Database Services activities and the various applications that the team supports and enhances.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, deliver, and run Database Services for public cloud providers.
  • Operate Cloud Database Services activities and applications.
  • Perform operational support that meets agreed Business Service Levels Agreements.
  • Monitor, manage, and improve against key measures, metrics, and service levels set for Service Management.
  • Ensure the production environment is protected through change control, preventing any disruption to services outside of agreed maintenance windows.
  • Support planning, risk analysis, and delivery of database upgrades, patches, maintenance releases, and all major product enhancement releases to IT infrastructure components.
  • Provide investigation, support, and resolution for applications and technical tools.
  • Provide continuous improvement of Database Services processes, procedures, and support operational excellence.
  • Provide technical consultancy and input to relevant projects and initiatives within the enterprise.
  • Assist in asset lifecycle management, including planning, hardware inventories, certificates, licenses, and CMDB.
  • Work across functional teams to provide capability and support for related technologies.
  • Schedule periodic backup processes and ensure they are incorporated into the enterprise backup scheme.
  • Identify key issues and risk elements and escalate promptly to the relevant escalation point.
  • Responsible for Database Services components of the Technology Infrastructure Disaster Recovery Plan.
Requirements:
  • Working understanding and knowledge of IT infrastructure, platforms, networks, and application architectures/platforms.
  • Current and pragmatic technical knowledge of key market drivers, industry players, and latest developments within competitive markets as related to Database & Cloud Services technologies.
  • Previous experience in articulating opportunities within existing environments that have fed into the continuous improvement plan.
  • Experience promoting new and improved methodologies, best practices, and the latest technology from Microsoft, AWS, GCP, and other key vendors, and experience implementing.
  • Competent in requirements gathering and project management.
  • Focused on business outcomes, not merely technology.
  • Excellent planning, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent negotiation skills and ability to influence outcomes.
  • Ability to interpret and provide input to complex IT designs.
  • Proven operational experience in AWS, GCP, or Azure PostgresSQL, AWS, GCP, or Azure MySQL, Oracle RAC aware or Exadata databases, and technology-specific coding language for automation, e.g. PowerShell, Terraform, or Ansible.
  • Excellent management of high-volume change management requirements.
  • Strong working knowledge of IT security principles.
