
Trauma Support Specialist

About This Role
We are seeking a skilled Trauma Support Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will provide high-quality trauma-informed support to individuals affected by sexual assault and children with harmful sexual behaviours.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide confidential, client-focused support for adults, children, young people, and their networks affected by sexual violence.
- Monitor client progress and tailor responses considering their diverse backgrounds, attributes, and preferences.
- Conduct sensitive intake assessments and provide information about available services, supports, options, referrals, and waiting lists.
- Collaborate with other organisations to ensure clients access necessary support and reduce the impact of sexual harm.
- Support clients through legal and medical processes following recent sexual assaults.
- Perform urgent risk assessments to ensure safety for clients, children, and young people exhibiting harmful sexual behaviours.
- Provide brief support during periods of distress.
- Maintain accurate client records and files, prepare reports, and serve as a credible witness when required.
- Contribute to the planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs.
- Participate in outreach, early intervention, and prevention initiatives.
- Advocate for clients' needs within our service system.
- Attend team meetings, staff training, and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
- Work ethically, especially regarding child safety and wellbeing.
What You Will Need:
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed practice and principles.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with diverse stakeholders.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Culturally sensitive approach to working with diverse populations.
- Relevant qualifications and experience in counselling or a related field.
About Our Organisation
We deliver trauma-informed therapeutic services to victim-survivors of sexual assault, their families, and supporters across Tasmania.
We partner with the Tasmanian Government in delivering centres for victim-survivors of sexual harm.
We run the PAST (Prevention, Assessment, Support and Treatment) Program for children and young people under 18 who display harmful sexual behaviours.
