Your RoleThe primary purpose of this role is to produce high-quality work products in the handling of technical, complex, and/or high-profile claims through effective investigation, reserving, and adjustment of claims within your client base.
Your Responsibilities:- Manage a portfolio of high-value or technically complex claims.
- Handle broker or insured sensitive claims where required.
- Coach and mentor Claims Examiners and Claims Specialists in your technical field.
- Analyse first reports to determine the nature of loss, coverage provided, and scope of loss/damage.
- Conduct investigations of all aspects of reported claims, securing and/or filing all supporting documentation and verifying same for accuracy, relevance, and completeness.
- Establish accurate and timely reserves.
- Seek technical assistance in handling claims exceeding delegated authority.
- Maintain an active diary, monitoring it to achieve timely development of the file and timely disposition of the claim.
- Promptly and properly document all developments on the electronic claim file.
- Exercise good judgment in reaching the final disposition of the claim by evaluating the nature of loss, liability, damage, coverage provided, and applicable limits.
- Effectively negotiate compromise settlements where appropriate.
- Effectively communicate with the Claims Department, Claims Operations, Customer Services, Underwriting Departments, brokers, insureds, counsel/legal representatives.
- Recognise and pursue recovery opportunities where applicable.
- Adhere to the Insurance Contracts Act and all other relevant statutory rules and regulations.
- Effectively control the use, work product, and expense of outside vendors.
- Effectively present cases to key internal stakeholders.
- Any other duties as required by the Financial Lines & Casualty Claims Management team.
- Accountable for taking all practical measures to ensure the workplace is safe and without risk to health.
- Tertiary qualified, law degree.
- Investigation techniques.
