Job Overview:

The Senior Payroll Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of payroll operations within McDermott. This position requires a high level of expertise in payroll processes, procedures, and regulations. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the execution of payroll activities, including processing payroll, employee and statutory payments, payroll-related accounting, reporting, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the execution of payroll activities, including processing payroll, employee and statutory payments, payroll-related accounting, reporting, and compliance.
  • Oversee and update payroll documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of payroll disbursements, including employee payments and statutory payments.
  • Ensure that all payroll activities adhere to relevant labor laws, tax regulations, and company policies.
  • Review and verify payroll data, conduct regular audits, and reconcile any discrepancies.
  • Address and resolve complex payroll issues or discrepancies, and provide guidance to colleagues as needed.
  • Identify areas for process optimization and implement best practices to streamline payroll operations.
  • Troubleshoot and recommend alternatives to resolve conflicts between business processes, business requirements, and standard system functionality.
  • Lead or facilitate meetings as necessary to discuss payroll-related matters.
  • Perform payroll tax reconciliation and ensure compliance with relevant tax regulations.
  • Liaise with and assist other departments as required to ensure seamless payroll operations.
  • Prepare special payroll reports as needed to support business decisions.
  • Perform testing as needed, particularly for tax updates, to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years experience with end-to-end payroll process knowledge.
  • Experience in overseeing small teams of 3-5 members is preferable.
  • Ability to multi-task, critical thinking ability, and ability to meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good communication skills - verbal and written.
  • Testing experience required.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and recommend alternatives to resolve conflicts between business processes, business requirements, and standard system functionality.
  • A demonstrated process improvement mindset and experience in driving process improvements.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Efficient time management capabilities.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to professionally interface with employees, management, and others regarding payroll inquiries.
  • Ability to handle sensitive employee data with a high level of confidentiality.
