About the Role

The Aboriginal Hospital Liaison Officer (AHLO) provides supportive contact to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients, their families, and healthcare professionals across our facilities.

This role involves providing face-to-face assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and their families attending treatment services as required.

The ideal candidate will be integral in improving our ability to meet the particular needs of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander patients and their families and increase the cultural sensitivity of healthcare services and providers to Aboriginal health issues.

Your Skills and Experience
  • Eligible for AHPRA registration as an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner
  • Certificate 4 in Aboriginal Primary Health Care, Health Work (or equivalent)
  • A sound knowledge and understanding of Victorian Aboriginal culture, society, and kinship networks
  • Ability to communicate with and be accepted by the local Aboriginal community
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, written, and verbal
  • Ability to develop and maintain communications with Aboriginal communities
  • Ability to capture and work with statistical data and information
  • An understanding of Aboriginal health issues at a local and state level
  • Current driver's license
