About AFAC

We provide professional emergency services, relying on highly skilled volunteers and a full-time workforce to protect communities in New South Wales.

Our mission is to save lives and foster safer environments through preparedness and effective response.

We respond to over 64,000 requests annually, serving the diverse needs of our community.

The team comprises 10,000 volunteer members, including reserves, and a full-time equivalent workforce of approximately 370 personnel.

Our operations are supported by 262 volunteer Units across the state, providing unique and specialized capabilities tailored to regional risks.

About the Role

This critical position contributes significantly to maintaining and enhancing the safety culture within AFAC. As a key stakeholder, you will develop and communicate crucial safety messages, collaborate with leaders and volunteers to identify and mitigate risks, and play a vital role in implementing safety strategies, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant regulations.

You will work closely with senior officials and volunteers to analyze and report on safety data, promoting a secure environment for all AFAC members. During operational activities, your expertise will be invaluable in ensuring the safety of our volunteers responding to emergencies.

This flexible role offers hybrid working arrangements, with a minimum of three days spent at our headquarters in Wollongong.

Compensation: Estimated $85,000 - $110,000 per annum (dependent on qualifications and experience)
