Portfolio Management Opportunity

This is a permanent position based in Melbourne, Sydney, or Brisbane (ideal).

  • Significant experience in AUD fixed income markets (governments, semis, SSAs, derivatives) and other global rates markets;
  • Highly technical specialist experience managing large bond portfolios, and unfunded derivatives strategies, and all the embedded operational aspects;
  • Significant experience in day-to-day fixed income portfolio management and construction, preferably with an institutional investment organisation;

This role plays a crucial part in the construction, management, and oversight of internal global government bond portfolios and alpha overlay.

  • Collaborate closely with the internal global fixed income team to deliver consistent risk-adjusted investment performance on physical and derivatives portfolios;
  • Contribute to the development of investment processes, including relevant quantitative models, to support the investment strategy of the portfolio;
  • Analyse new and alternative investment strategies relating to beta replication, security selection, and relative value alpha generation and/or cost minimisation;
  • Undertake in-depth analysis and research on key investment ideas as directed by the Head of Internal Government Portfolios;
  • Manage portfolio and compliance-related risks and obligations;
  • Communicate and explain investment performance and processes to key internal stakeholders;
  • Contribute to papers and discussions for internal forums and committees;
  • Manage relationships with key external parties, including brokers/investment banks.
Key Requirements
  • Significant experience in global fixed Income and comprehensive knowledge of:
    • Central bank policy functions;
    • Developed markets sovereign bonds;
    • Derivatives (futures, interest rate, inflation, and cross-currency swaps); Semis, and other local authority/SSA issuers;
  • A demonstrated track record of achieving alpha targets in managing fixed income portfolios using physical and derivatives securities;
  • Strong quantitative skills;
  • Strong people and relationship management skills - the role will involve managing one team member;
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with key external and internal stakeholders;
  • Strong written, oral communication, and presentation skills;
  • Tertiary qualifications in Finance/Economics or Maths/Engineering or a related field.
