About the Role:
We're constructing some of Australia's most complex projects, including the Black Hill to Tomago M1, Gold Coast Light Rail, and Upper South Creek Advanced Water Recycling Centre. Due to industry expansion, we're seeking a Design Manager for an upcoming $450m Water Infrastructure project in regional NSW.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and control the delivery of project design to ensure quality, completion, and project objectives are met.
- Select and engage external design partners, monitoring their performance, deliverables, costs, and timeframes.
- Manage the design approval process in accordance with project requirements and program.
- Prepare budgets and schedules of design delivery for management approval and manage the cost of design delivery in the project life cycle.
- Ensure design meets project requirements and demonstrates commercial and contractual awareness in dealing with clients and external design partners.
- Manage client and stakeholder expectations, communicate effectively with the project team, and supervise subordinate design and drafting staff.
- Select and develop design management staff, providing leadership and mentoring to ensure their design management competencies.
- Understand design compliance and reporting procedures and processes, and lead in the communication of requirements.
- Foster interaction between design and construction teams to maximise innovation and project success.
- Ensure JH Safety in Design requirements are met.
- Perform all duties in accordance with John Holland policies, processes, systems, and procedures.
Requirements:
- Tertiary qualification in Architecture, Building, Construction, Engineering, or Quantity Surveying.
- 5-10 years' experience in technical management roles on significant projects.
- Demonstrated competencies in Head Contract and Subcontract understanding and interpretation.
- Strong stakeholder management with major consultant partners.
- Awareness of risk management principles and how design can impact operational risk.
- Proficient skills in relevant computer software packages and necessary to perform the role.
- Strong time and cost management skills in timely delivery of design and management of both the costs of preparing design and the costs of the works.
