As a senior legal adviser, you will play a critical role in providing legal advice and support to various regulatory activities. Your primary responsibilities will include gathering evidence, issuing statutory notices, and managing investigation procedures under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (WHS Act).

The key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Providing legal support for investigations, inspections, and other regulatory activities
  • Assisting with the preparation of briefs of evidence for prosecutions commenced under the WHS Act
  • Collaborating with the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions and Inspectors when a prosecution is commenced
  • Facilitating continuous improvement projects and identifying trends and capability opportunities for inspectors

This role requires strong organizational skills to manage your workload effectively in accordance with the APS Values and Code of Conduct, Legal Services Directions 2017, and internal procedures.

Mandatory qualifications and experience for this role include:

  • Admission as a legal practitioner of the High Court or the Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory
  • Current restricted practising Certificate or ability to obtain one within three months

Desirable qualifications and experience include experience in providing investigation support and conducting prosecutions in a criminal law or regulatory environment.
