Southern Ocean Climate Dynamics Researcher

The PhD Opportunity aims to investigate the physics of the Southern Ocean circulation and its role in the climate system. By focusing on the magnitude, distribution, and mechanisms of mixing by horizontal eddy motions at scales less than 100 kilometres, this project seeks to develop a process-based understanding of eddy mixing, especially related to jet-topography interactions.
This will be achieved through theoretical and observational approaches, including designing experiments with numerical models of Southern Ocean circulation and analyzing observational data to test and refine the understanding. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to apply this knowledge to climate model evaluation and improvement.
To be eligible for this scholarship, candidates should have a strong academic record, including Honours Class I or equivalent, especially in physics and/or mathematics. International students are encouraged to apply.
