Equine Veterinary Care Specialist

This is an exciting opportunity to join our veterinary team at a leading thoroughbred stud. As an equine veterinary care specialist, you will play a key role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the growth and success of the business.

About the Role

As a member of our close-knit veterinary team, you will work alongside experienced veterinarians to cover all aspects of a thoroughbred stud. This includes reproduction, surgery, lameness diagnosis and treatment, as well as routine health checks and preventative care.

The successful candidate will have a strong passion for equine veterinary medicine and be proficient in scanning mares pre and post-service, mid-trimester placental scans, pregnancy testing, and twin foal medicine, yearling endoscopy, and radiography.

Our veterinary facilities are state-of-the-art, with a full lab, portable ultrasound, digital radiograph and video endoscope machines. You will also have access to referral services from nearby equine referral hospitals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality patient care and contribute to the growth and success of the business
  • Work alongside experienced veterinarians to cover all aspects of a thoroughbred stud
  • Perform routine health checks and preventative care
  • Conduct reproduction procedures, including scanning mares pre and post-service, mid-trimester placental scans, pregnancy testing, and twin foal medicine
  • Diagnose and treat lameness in racehorses
  • Assist management with yearling inspections and complete thorough pre-purchase clinical examinations

Requirements

  • Degree in Veterinary Medicine/Science eligible for full veterinary registration in Victoria
  • Minimum of one year of equine reproduction-focused work
  • Victorian driver's license
  • Equal shared on-call
  • Ability to work and communicate efficiently within a large team and fast-paced environment
