As a key member of the Defence public affairs community, you will play a critical role in promoting and protecting the reputation of the Royal Australian Navy and the operations of the Australian Defence Force around the world.
About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced communications professional to join the Defence public affairs team. As a Defence Public Affairs Specialist, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating and generating content for internal, domestic, regional and international audiences. You will engage with media outlets in support of Navy's activities and promote the reputation of the Royal Australian Navy and the Australian Defence Force.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate and generate content for various audiences, including internal, domestic, regional and international.
- Engage with media outlets in support of Navy's activities.
- Promote and protect the reputation of the Royal Australian Navy and the operations of the Australian Defence Force.
- Provide a broad range of functions for both Navy and Defence through the use of various earned media (television, radio and press) and owned media (social media, service newspapers and internal channels).
- Lead Defence photographers and videographers and work with Australian Public Servants to deliver operational and strategic communications advice to Commanding Officers and senior leaders.
- Assist with the handling of topical issues.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of Military Public Affairs plans and strategies.
Requirements
- A sound understanding of media dynamics, media event coordination and media liaison.
- Journalism, writing, editing and publishing experience.
- Multimedia skills, coordinating video production.
- Stakeholder engagement / management skills.
- Government and community relations engagement.
- Social media strategy and content creation.
- Ability to work well under pressure and in complex environments under highly structured management chains.
What We Offer
- An estimated annual salary of $80,000 - $120,000.
