Indigenous Engagement Project Officer Job

The Indigenous Engagement Project Officer will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies that support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' participation in Australian Biosecurity outcomes.

This is a unique opportunity to work with CSIRO, one of the world's largest multidisciplinary science and research organisations, to foster and build respectful partnerships with Indigenous Australia.

The CSIRO-DAFF Catalysing Australia's Biosecurity (CAB) initiative is a joint biosecurity research, development and innovation work program between CSIRO and DAFF.

The goal of this initiative is to improve long-term national biosecurity outcomes by delivering innovative technologies, digital systems and capabilities that transform performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, adapt and coordinate Indigenous-led activities, including facilitating engagement and networking with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders.
  • Provide advice on Indigenous matters and engagement in relation to governance and operation of the work program.
  • Be a conduit to stakeholder engagement groups to communicate needs and priorities as they relate to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Requirements:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification and/or relevant experience in a similar position.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement experience and ability to clearly convey information and ideas.
  • A strong demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander societies, cultures and issues affecting these cultures in Australian society.
  • A demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.
