Job Profile:

A skilled water installation specialist is required to design, fabricate, install and maintain plumbing systems and related equipment. This may involve overseeing and directing the work of a small team of laborers.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Assemble pipe sections, fittings and fixtures using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, solvent welds, caulking or soldering, brazing and/or welding equipment.
  • Check pipes and plumbing fixtures for leaks by filling them with water/air and observing pressure gauges.
  • Review blueprints and specifications to determine work details and procedures.
  • Locate and mark the position of pipe installations, connections, penetrations and fixtures in structures using measuring instruments such as rulers and levels.
  • Measure, cut, thread and bend pipe using hand power tools or machines.
  • Cut openings in structures to accommodate pipes and pipe fittings using hand and power tools.
  • Hang steel supports from ceiling joists to hold pipes in place.
  • Repair and replace defective washers, mend broken pipes and clear clogged drains.
  • Install underground storm, sanitary and water piping systems.
  • Inspect equipment, structures and materials to identify causes of errors, safety hazards or other issues and provide solutions or escalate them accordingly.
  • Share knowledge and teach trade skills to less experienced tradespeople.

Work Environment:

  • This role operates primarily in the field. Fieldwork involves exposure to varying weather conditions, potentially hazardous materials, fumes, odors, noise and machinery associated with a construction site.
  • Depending on the location, the incumbent may be exposed to extreme temperatures, inclement weather, noise, poor ventilation/lighting and other hazards or conditions typically associated with a construction site.
