Job Description

We are a leading environmental campaigning organisation that uses non-violent direct action and creative confrontation to expose global environmental problems and promote solutions that are essential to a green and peaceful future.

Our goal is to ensure the ability of the earth to nurture life in all its diversity. We operate in various Pacific Island nations, with our head office based in Sydney.

The focus of our work is on protecting the environment and promoting sustainability, which requires a strong commitment to social justice and human rights.

We uphold independence by not accepting money from governments, corporations or political parties, which allows us to maintain our integrity and stay true to our mission.

We take non-violent direct action at the point of an environmental crime to expose an environmental problem and promote solutions.

The GPAP Board is responsible for ensuring that our mission is clear, appropriate and maintains relevance as times change, and provides guidance for setting the direction of GPAP.

  • Continuously monitor our programmes and activities to ensure they are aligned with our mission and achieve their short-term goals and long-term purpose;
  • Ensure executive performance by setting objectives and performance indicators for our CEO and regularly reviewing his/her performance;
  • Ensure that we obtain and appropriately use the resources required to carry out our mission and sustain it;
  • Be satisfied as to the adequacy and integrity of financial and other reporting to the Board and that there are adequate systems of internal control;
  • Be satisfied that systems for identification and management of risks are robust and appropriate; and
  • Comply with relevant governance standards.

Board members must be able to fully commit to our mission, goal and values. They should display leadership skills, work collaboratively and cooperatively, speak up and ask the hard questions, have particular skills or experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • CORPORATE GOVERNANCE
  • ENVIRONMENTAL CAMPAIGNING
  • FUNDRAISING
  • FINANCE AND FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
  • DEEP UNDERSTANDING OF THE CULTURAL, POLITICAL, ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL CONTEXT OF FIRST NATIONS PEOPLE
  • RESEARCH AND/OR SCIENTIFIC LITERACY
