About SBS

SBS stands as one of the world's most distinctive and innovative media organizations, dedicated to producing trusted, meaningful, and engaging content that resonates with all Australians, celebrating the rich diversity of our multicultural society.

For nearly five decades, our mission has reflected and explored the evolving diversity of Australia, investing in initiatives that deepen connections with communities, share their narratives, and amplify voices that are often unheard, fostering understanding and respect for the differences that shape our nation.

SBS is a unique network, showcasing multicultural, multilingual, and First Nations stories that are often overlooked in the Australian media landscape.

Position Overview

The Indigenous Engagement & Partnerships Manager at SBS plays a pivotal role in cultivating robust relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Collaborating across the organization and with external partners, you will oversee and execute strategic engagement initiatives, facilitate partnerships, provide cultural leadership, and support SBS's Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) efforts. Additionally, you will offer high-level counsel on Indigenous policy matters, ensuring that SBS's content, operations, and partnerships align with the diverse cultures and values of First Nations peoples.

Key Responsibilities

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Design and implement a First Nations stakeholder engagement strategy, fostering and maintaining positive relationships with key Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders. Facilitate partnerships that align with SBS's mission, ensuring consistent messaging and continuity in relationships.
  • Policy and Cultural Leadership: Provide high-level guidance to SBS's Executive and Senior Management on Indigenous cultural protocols, community consultation, and best practices. Support SBS's RAP by managing relationships with Reconciliation Australia and offering leadership and guidance on the implementation of key initiatives, including Ngarra - the First Nations Staff Advisory Group.
  • Project Management: Oversee the planning, execution, and management of Indigenous-focused projects and partnerships, including significant cultural and community events such as NAIDOC Week. Manage budgets and resources effectively, ensuring alignment with SBS's strategic objectives.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and mentor the Indigenous Engagement & Partnerships team, fostering a cohesive and productive environment. Ensure the team's work reflects SBS's values and adheres to relevant policies and procedures.

Candidate Profile

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in Indigenous engagement, with a proven track record of providing senior-level advice and managing complex projects. Experience in the media sector is advantageous.
  • Strong strategic thinking and relationship-building skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and persuasively across diverse stakeholders.
  • Deep understanding of the diverse cultures, languages, and communities of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing teams, budgets, and resources, with a focus on achieving strategic outcomes and increasing impact.

Why Consider SBS?

  • A culture that genuinely celebrates and welcomes diversity, making you feel included as part of one of the most inclusive companies in Australia.
  • Engagement and satisfaction within our workforce, reflected in an employee engagement score of 82% and low turnover rates.
  • A well-established and trusted brand, broadcasting for over 49 years and continuing to evolve.
  • A comprehensive range of benefits, including health care checks, salary packaging, Employee Assistance Program, flexible work arrangements, and discounted gym memberships nationally.
  • A commitment to internal promotion and development, with allocated funds to support training and career progression.

Work Health & Safety Commitment

As a leader at SBS, you will promote and manage health and safety arrangements for your team, ensuring compliance with all relevant standards and legislation. You will also support early intervention strategies and return-to-work programs.

Application Process

If you are passionate about making a meaningful impact and possess the experience and skills to lead SBS's Indigenous Engagement and Partnerships, we encourage you to apply and become part of a team that values diversity, embraces differences, and strives to create a more cohesive society.
