Manager of Indigenous Relations and Partnerships

North Shore, New South Wales, Australia Special Broadcasting Full time

Eligibility Requirement: Applicants must identify as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent. SBS considers that being Aboriginal and/or a Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational requirement for this position under s 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).

About SBS:

SBS stands as one of the most distinctive and innovative media organizations globally, dedicated to producing content that is meaningful, trusted, and engaging for all Australians. Our mission has been to inspire, support, and celebrate the rich diversity of our multicultural society for nearly five decades.

We have consistently reflected and explored the evolving diversity of Australia, investing in initiatives that strengthen connections with communities, share their narratives, and amplify voices that are often unheard. Our aim is to foster understanding and respect for the differences that shape Australia.

SBS is a unique network that showcases multicultural, multilingual, and First Nations stories that are otherwise underrepresented in the Australian media landscape.

Position Overview:

The Indigenous Engagement & Partnerships Manager is pivotal in cultivating robust relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. This role involves collaborating across the organization and with external partners to manage and execute strategic engagement initiatives, facilitate partnerships, provide cultural leadership, and support the implementation of SBS's Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). Additionally, you will offer expert advice on Indigenous policy matters, ensuring that SBS's content, operations, and partnerships are in harmony with the diverse cultures and values of First Nations peoples.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Design and implement a First Nations stakeholder engagement strategy, fostering and maintaining positive relationships with key Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders. Ensure partnerships align with SBS's mission, maintaining consistent messaging and relationship continuity.
  • Policy and Cultural Leadership: Provide strategic advice to SBS's Executive and Senior Management on Indigenous cultural protocols, community consultation, and best practices. Support the RAP by managing relationships with Reconciliation Australia and offering leadership on the execution of key initiatives, including Ngarra - the First Nations Staff Advisory Group.
  • Project Management: Oversee the planning, execution, and management of Indigenous-focused projects and partnerships, including significant cultural and community events. Manage budgets and resources effectively, ensuring alignment with SBS's strategic objectives.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and mentor the Indigenous Engagement & Partnerships team, fostering a cohesive and productive work environment. Ensure the team's efforts reflect SBS's values and adhere to relevant policies and procedures.

Candidate Profile:

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in Indigenous engagement, with a proven track record of providing senior-level advice and managing complex projects. Experience in the media sector is advantageous.
  • Strong strategic thinking and relationship-building skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and persuasively across diverse stakeholders.
  • Deep understanding of the diverse cultures, languages, and communities of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing teams, budgets, and resources, with a focus on achieving strategic outcomes and increasing impact.

Why Consider SBS:

  • A culture that genuinely celebrates and welcomes diversity, fostering a sense of inclusion.
  • A workforce engagement score of 82%, reflecting high employee satisfaction and low turnover rates.
  • A trusted and established brand with over 49 years of broadcasting experience.
  • A comprehensive range of benefits, including health care checks, salary packaging, Employee Assistance Programme, flexible work arrangements, and discounted gym memberships.
  • Opportunities for internal promotion and support for professional development.

Work Health & Safety:

As a leader at SBS, you will promote and manage health and safety arrangements for your team, ensuring compliance with all relevant standards and legislation. You will also support early intervention strategies and return-to-work programs.

Application Process:

If you are passionate about making a meaningful impact and possess the experience and skills to lead SBS's Indigenous Engagement and Partnerships, we encourage you to apply and become part of a team that values diversity and strives to create a more cohesive society.

Reasonable Adjustments:

SBS recognizes that everyone is unique, and adjustments may be required to ensure the best opportunity for you to showcase your skills. If you need any adjustments to the recruitment or interview process, please let us know.

Note: We are actively reviewing applications as they are received.
