Strategic Engagement and Relationship Management

The Assistant Director North-East and South Asia will support the Director International Engagement-Air Force in managing and supporting outcomes of the Air Force International Engagement Plan.

This includes leading a team managing relationships with nations within the north-eastern and southern Asian regions, including India, Pakistan, Republic of Korea, and Japan, as well as the Middle East.

Key duties of the position include:

  • Conducting strategic analysis of international and regional events to manage and lead Desk Officers;
  • Coordinating with other Air Force agencies to establish strategic messaging and priorities for engagement activities;
  • Ensuring Air Force senior leadership receive support for key engagements and visits;
  • Traveling with senior leadership on overseas engagement activities;
  • Liaising and coordinating across the Defence enterprise in support of engagement outcomes;
  • Overseeing all Air Force international engagement events to ensure Senior Leadership is prepared.

The Directorate of International Engagement-Air Force is a highly visible, strategically important, impactful and dynamic working environment.

From briefing the Air Force Senior Leadership Team on strategic bilateral engagements to planning and attending multilateral engagements, the work is as diverse as the countries we engage with.

We manage Air Force to Air Force relationships across more than 20 countries, support Senior leaders for routine dialogues and other senior level engagements.

In addition to supporting overseas engagements of Senior Leadership, IE-AF is also responsible for overseas positions and training courses.

  • Ability to connect across the enterprise with ease;
  • Experience in international engagement across the broader Defence Enterprise; and
  • Self-starters who seek opportunities to integrate and fit seamlessly within a high-performing team.

Applicants will also demonstrate a high standard of written and oral communication, along with a well-developed ability to organise complex activities involving multiple groups and services.
