We are seeking a highly motivated Researcher to join our team in the field of soil organic carbon mapping. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in remote sensing and geospatial analysis, with a focus on developing high-resolution mapping systems for soil organic carbon at the field scale.

Job Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing a system for mapping soil organic carbon across the Walloon region, covering an area of 16,900 km². The focus will be on croplands, which are most vulnerable to soil organic carbon loss. The researcher will investigate the performance of European Sentinel 2 and Sentinel 1 satellites, as well as Italian PRISMA and German EnMAP satellites, in providing accurate soil mapping data.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Ph.D. degree in a relevant field such as remote sensing, geospatial analysis, or environmental science
  • Strong background in programming languages such as Python, R, or MATLAB
  • Experience with geospatial analysis software such as ArcGIS or QGIS
  • Knowledge of machine learning algorithms and their applications in remote sensing
