Job Description:

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Ph.D. candidate to join our team in the field of Remote Sensing of Soil Organic Carbon (SOC). The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on developing a system for high-resolution mapping of SOC at the field scale, covering the entire Walloon territory.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To develop a system for high-resolution mapping of SOC at the field scale
  • To investigate the soil mapping performances of European Sentinel 2 and Sentinel 1 satellites, as well as the Italian PRISMA and the German En MAP satellites
  • To develop methods based on a reference sampling strategy and assess their scaling up to the Walloon region
  • To provide up-to-date SOC maps for at least two separate time slices with an interval of 3-5 years

Requirements:

  • A Master's degree in Earth Observation, Geology, Soil Science or a related field
  • Excellent programming skills in languages such as Python, R, or MATLAB
  • Strong knowledge of remote sensing techniques and data analysis
  • Good understanding of soil science and ecology
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
