We are seeking a researcher to contribute to the development of high-resolution mapping systems for soil organic carbon at the field scale.
About the ProjectThis project aims to investigate the soil mapping performances of European Sentinel 2 and Sentinel 1 satellites, as well as the Italian PRISMA and German EnMAP satellites. The focus will be on croplands, which are most vulnerable to soil organic carbon loss.
The PhD candidate will develop a system based on Earth Observation data calibrated and validated by regional soil databases. This system should provide up-to-date soil organic carbon maps for at least two separate time slices with an interval of 3-5 years.
Key Responsibilities- Develop methods for high-resolution mapping of soil organic carbon at the field scale
- Investigate soil mapping performances of various satellite datasets
- Contribute to the development of a system for scaling up to the Walloon region
The ideal candidate will have:
- A Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., remote sensing, geology, ecology)
- Experience with programming languages (e.g., Python, R)
- Familiarity with Earth Observation data and satellite imagery
As a researcher in this project, you will have the opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary team and contribute to the development of innovative solutions for soil organic carbon mapping.
