About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Manager Operational Risk to join our team at Westpac. In this role, you will provide oversight of the risk management framework, policies, and controls across the Mortgages Line of Business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide independent oversight of the effectiveness of Mortgages LOB risk management practices and execution against the Risk Management Framework.
  • Advise the business on how to identify, monitor, measure, and manage existing and emerging risks.
  • Support Risk leaders in monitoring the effectiveness of business risk practices, highlighting gaps and risks outside appetite, and escalating as required.
  • Assist business units in driving a risk-aware culture, where risk is built into business decisions.
  • Provide independent oversight and challenge over the effectiveness of delivery and delivered risk management through projects and business change initiatives.
  • Provide independent assessment and challenge over the risks inherent in material changes, such as key business decisions, projects, process changes, implementation of new infrastructure, product changes, or launches.
  • Provide the business with specialist, outcome-focused risk advice and insights that influence decisions, optimize risk/reward balance, and assist it to achieve its objectives within risk appetite and legal parameters.
  • Share solutions, insights, advice, and recommendations from lessons learned and potential risk impacts discussed internally and from external developments.
  • Support deep dive reviews of incidents and near misses to identify root cause and support remediation.
What You'll Need
  • 5+ years of specific business experience in a relevant area of the same or another financial services organization; or
  • 3+ years of operational risk/compliance advisory experience in the same or another Business Unit within the Group, financial services organization, or consulting/audit firm with financial services experience.
  • The ability to achieve objectives in a changing environment.
  • Strong commercial acumen.
  • The ability to work and make decisions (within delegated boundaries) autonomously.
  • Demonstratable experience of translating the complex into the simple and communicating with passion.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
