Job Opportunity: Academic Midwifery Position

The Australian College of Nursing is seeking a qualified individual to fill an academic midwifery position within our institution.

Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced and skilled professional to contribute to the development and delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate midwifery programs. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching, research, and academic leadership, with a strong focus on advancing the midwifery profession.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop, deliver, and coordinate courses within undergraduate and postgraduate midwifery programs.
  • Contribute to the advancement of the midwifery profession through research and academic leadership.
  • Maintain and develop scholarly, research, and/or professional activities.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in midwifery, excellent teaching and communication skills, and a passion for contributing to the academic and research community.

They will also have experience in curriculum development, course design, and academic leadership, as well as a strong understanding of contemporary midwifery practice and professional standards.

Required Qualifications and Skills:
  • Registration as a Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) and Doctoral degree qualification in a relevant health discipline.
  • Extensive experience teaching and coordinating undergraduate, preregistration, and postgraduate midwifery programs.
  • Level C: Extensive clinical midwifery experience across a range of care settings, with a strong understanding of contemporary midwifery practice, professional standards, and priorities that support safe, woman-centred care.
  • Level D: Demonstrated expertise, knowledge, and contribution to the discipline of Midwifery at a national level.
  • Level D: Demonstrated experience in the provision of academic leadership to develop a culture of teaching and learning excellence.
  • Level D: Demonstrated ability to enhance the research profile of the Academic Unit through collaborative research and to publish research findings.
