Job Overview

The role of a Senior Cost Estimator involves providing project cost estimation services for all stages of Delivery Management projects, ensuring competitive pricing schedules and integrating WHS, Community and environmental issues into cost plans.

This includes developing cost estimates on large and complex construction projects valued between $100k - over $1bn, managing heavy workloads with tight deadlines, negotiating priorities, and re-prioritising own work.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare project estimates in accordance with industry best practice, adhering to company processes and procedures.
  • Determine total costs of materials, labour, and equipment required for large and complex construction projects.
  • Analyse indirect and overhead costs using prescribed staff rates or develop reasonable benchmark rates.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders to obtain necessary information.
  • Develop Cost Plans and Cost Estimates for price build and contract documentation.
  • Obtain market prices for specialist contractors and supply of materials by preparing tender documents.
  • Provide expert support on pre-qualification and pre-bid submissions.
  • Ensure relevant documents and budgets are submitted before bid deadlines.
  • Perform cost analyses on contractor pricing submissions, determine project duration, procure vendors and subcontractors, and manage resources.
  • Support building and maintenance of competitive pricing schedule databases and integrate WHS, Community and environmental issues into cost plans.
  • Support benchmarking and cost analysis function as required.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil or Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience as an estimator in the construction field with demonstrable experience in the water industry or other highly regulated industry desirable.
  • Extensive knowledge of best industry practices and standards.
  • Demonstrable experience of construction site working and construction logistics.
  • Experience of working in highly regulated environments under strict HS&E codes.
  • Experience in research, proposal writing, and oral presentation to senior management, external stakeholders, regulatory bodies and agencies.
  • Demonstrable interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced computer skills and ability to use estimating and measurement software accurately and quickly.
  • Proven business acumen and experience in driving innovation and best practice in cost estimation.
