Job Title: Medical Laboratory Support Specialist

About the Role:

Laboratory Assistants play a vital role in the Microbiology Laboratory, contributing to patient care and laboratory operations.

  • Routine receipt and processing of specimens, including operation and maintenance of analytical equipment.
  • Pre- and post-analytical specimen handling, identification, and prioritization of urgent specimens.
  • Filing and storage of specimens and data entry for accurate record-keeping.
  • Assisting Scientists as required, learning processing requirements for different samples and tests.
  • Staying updated with processing procedures to ensure compliance and quality standards.
  • Responding to results, sample requirements, and general queries from healthcare professionals.
Required Skills and Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • Experience in specimen processing and data entry, with a strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills to interact with patients, healthcare professionals, and colleagues.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team, adapting to changing priorities and workload demands.
  • A strong understanding of medical terminology and laboratory procedures, with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and adhering to strict protocols.
  • Certificate III in Laboratory Techniques or Pathology Collection is desirable, but not essential.
