Schedule: Various shifts between Monday to Sunday and Public Holidays, as required. Ability to cover a busy evening shift until 01:30 am.

About the role

Laboratory Assistants play a critical role in the Microbiology Laboratory and in contributing towards patient care. We seek a highly motivated individual to join our passionate and engaged team. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Routine receipt and processing of specimens, including operation and maintenance of analysers
  • Pre- and post-analytical specimen handling
  • Identification and prioritisation of urgent specimens
  • Filing and storage of specimens and data entry
  • Assisting Scientists as required
  • Learning processing requirements for different samples and tests
  • Staying updated with processing procedures
  • Responding to result, sample requirements, and general queries
  • Identifying and resolving problems at the pre-analytical stage

About you

To be considered, you should have:

  • Experience in specimen processing and data entry
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • The ability to cope and thrive in a busy environment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Understanding of procedure accuracy importance
  • Willingness to follow departmental policies
  • Previous laboratory experience and knowledge of medical terminology are desirable but not essential
  • Certificate III in Laboratory Techniques or Pathology Collection is desirable
