Job Title: Policy and Advisory Specialist

Overview:

This role offers an exceptional opportunity to work as a trusted advisor to a senior government official, providing high-quality policy advice and support on key issues affecting women.

The position is based in Australian Parliament House, Canberra, ACT, and involves working closely with the Minister for Women's office to develop and implement policies that promote gender equality.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic advice on policy development and implementation, focusing on areas such as ending gender-based violence and promoting women's empowerment.
  • Maintain effective relationships with stakeholders across government, including ministerial offices and the Australian Public Service, to ensure seamless policy delivery.
  • Liaise with the Australian Public Service on policy, advice, and legislation to ensure portfolio resources are used effectively.
  • Liaise with stakeholders to support the Government's priorities and provide advice on parliamentary matters, including Question Time, legislative processes, and parliamentary business.
  • Assist in developing policy initiatives by analyzing and preparing reports, papers, policy statements, briefing notes, and statistical information.
  • Provide input into communications and political advice as required.
  • Promote, support, and maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive workplace culture.
Requirements:
  • Demonstrated experience advancing gender equality through policy/programming advice and/or implementation in public, non-profit, or private sectors.
  • Experience addressing gender-based violence and related social policy issues; working politically and in public administration is highly regarded.
  • Strong understanding of government processes and translating policy into practice.
  • Excellent relationship management and collaboration across stakeholders and portfolios, including with other Ministerial Offices, the Australian Public Service, and community stakeholders.
  • Ability to think strategically as part of a small team and deliver quality work in a high-pressure environment.
Benefits:
  • A commencing salary between $109,788 and $162,021, negotiable based on experience and skills.
  • An optional allowance may be considered for additional hours of work and travel requirements.
  • Relocation assistance, studies assistance, and paid study leave may be available (subject to eligibility).
  • Employer superannuation contribution of 15.4%.
