Support Family Recovery

This position draws on personal experience of family/carer roles for consumers with mental health challenges to develop empathic relationships and collaborate in planning, delivery, and evaluation of the service.

The goal is to work within a multidisciplinary team to ensure recovery principles are adopted, develop resources, and provide information and education to families and carers to support sustainable recovery outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to quality improvement activities and participation in meetings to develop practice that prioritizes consumer recovery.
  • Provide advocacy and support to consumers and their families, drawing on personal lived experience to develop empathic relationships.
  • Work to implement recovery principles within practice, develop resources, and provide information and group interventions to facilitate recovery outcomes.
  • Provide information, advocacy, education, and interventions to families and carers of mental health consumers within the local community.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Lived experience as a family member or carer for a person experiencing mental health challenges.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in health promotion or related discipline, or extensive experience in health promotion, or a Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work.
  • Experience accessing and navigating healthcare services.
  • Knowledge of current local, State, and National legislation and standards relevant to mental health.
  • Familiarity with recovery values and principles, trauma-informed care.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, including quality written documentation via proficient IT skills.
  • A strong interest in new knowledge and emerging practices relevant to being a Support Family Recovery Worker.
  • A Current Drivers License (or willingness to travel as required).
