Role summaryThis is an exciting opportunity for a Family and Carer Peer Worker to join our Community Mental Health team. The role will contribute to the development of sustainable recovery oriented practice through quality improvement activities and participation in meetings along with providing advocacy and support to our consumers and their families. The Family and Carer Peer Worker will be located at Sutherland Hospital, drawing on personal lived experience of family/carer role for a consumer with mental health challenges, to develop empathic relationships and collaborating in planning, delivery and evaluation of the service. The goal of the position is to work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to ensure Family Focus Recovery Framework is adopted within the practice, to develop resources and provide information to families and carers by providing education and group interventions aimed at facilitating recovery principles of hope, choice, self-determination and social connectedness. In addition, this role provides information, advocacy, education and interventions to families and carers of mental health consumers and who reside in the Local Health District.
Responsibilities- Provide advocacy, education and interventions to families and carers of mental health consumers.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to implement the Family Focus Recovery Framework in practice.
- Develop resources and deliver information to families and carers; facilitate education and group interventions to support recovery principles.
- Contribute to quality improvement activities and participate in meetings.
- Draw on lived experience to build empathic relationships and support planning, delivery and evaluation of services.
- Lived experience as a family member or carer for a person experiencing mental health challenges.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in health promotion or related discipline or extensive experience in health promotion, or combination of study and work; for Non-Graduate a Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or willingness to obtain.
- Experience accessing and navigating health care services.
- Knowledge of current local, State and National legislation and standards relevant to mental health.
- Familiar with lived experience values and principles, recovery principles, trauma-informed care.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills including proficient IT skills for quality written documentation.
- Strong interest in new knowledge and emerging practices relevant to Family and Carer Peer Support Worker.
- Current Drivers Licence (or willingness to travel).
