Mental Health Family Support Specialist

This position is focused on assisting families and carers of individuals living with mental illness to achieve purposeful coping and enhance well-being.
The support worker will provide emotional guidance, individual coaching, and advocacy for carers, while facilitating access to relevant services and promoting mental health education programs.
Key Responsibilities- Assist families and carers in achieving purposeful coping and enhancing well-being
- Provide emotional support, guidance, and individual coaching to carers
- Advocate for carers' needs and facilitate access to relevant services
- Plan, promote, and evaluate mental health education programs
- Respond to issues raised by clients, advocates, or family members
- Develop and maintain links with relevant service providers and carer groups
- Diploma in mental health or community services related discipline
- Previous experience in a Support Worker or related role
- In-depth understanding of mental illness and disabilities
- Background knowledge of drugs, alcohol, and illicit drug use
- Experience in group facilitation and communication skills
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
- Experience working with diverse populations, including those with lived experience of mental health recovery, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
