Census Engagement Manager
Job Summary:
We are seeking experienced professionals to support accurate representation in the Census for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.
This role involves fostering positive relationships with community stakeholders, attending key events, and ensuring Census engagement is culturally safe and inclusive.
- Planning, management, and undertaking engagement activities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.
- Engaging directly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, Elders, organisations, and service providers to raise awareness of the Census and encourage participation.
- Assisting in recruiting and training a team of field and engagement staff emphasising cultural competence and sensitivity.
- Conducting field work with safety and care, ensuring the safety and well-being of your team.
- Leveraging strong community connections to promote Census job opportunities, support local recruitment, and ensure Census messaging is delivered in culturally appropriate ways.
- Providing assistance in gathering support for the Census from community organisations and service providers.
Key Requirements:
- Experience working with and/or engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities, and knowledge of issues impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- Strong community engagement skills, with the ability to build trust and develop respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, Elders, and service providers.
- Communicates confidently, sharing information clearly and appropriately with individuals and groups.
- Self-motivated and adaptable, capable of working independently and making informed decisions while respecting cultural and community dynamics.
- Local knowledge, including cultural, historical, and social understanding of the communities in your region.
- Leadership and coordination skills, with the ability to support and guide a team in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining cultural safety and responsiveness.
