Aboriginal Family Led Decision Making (AFLDM) Role
The role of the Practice Leader AFLDM involves working collaboratively with practitioners and teams to strengthen case practice with Aboriginal children and families, ensuring effective service delivery and supporting other practitioners in achieving positive outcomes.
This position requires an understanding of Aboriginal culture, legislative, policy, and practice requirements relating to Aboriginal children, families, and communities, including the Aboriginal Child Placement Principle and programs that support its implementation in child protection practice.
About this role:
- Co-convene meetings for Aboriginal clients to develop plans ensuring the safety, stability, and development of Aboriginal children and young people
- Promote the achievement of case plan objectives within specified timeframes
- Work in partnership with the community co-convenor and Aboriginal organisations to provide community education, training, and consultation for child protection and Aboriginal agency staff
- Transportation of children is a requirement, necessitating a valid driver's licence and willingness to travel, including in-country regions
Key Accountabilities:
- Child-centred and family-focused relationship-based practice: leads and articulates the department's position using a conciliatory approach, focusing on client safety and wellbeing
- Problem solving: understands broader issues and political dimensions, creates an environment for proactive problem solving, supports the team to use their strengths to resolve issues
Requirements:
- Australian Citizenship, Permanent Resident, or hold a valid work permit or visa
