The Data Foundations Technology Lead is a key member of our Data Platform team, responsible for delivering scalable, robust, secure, and performant technology solutions that meet business requirements and transformation roadmaps.

As a Technical Lead, you'll work closely with our SI partner and BAU Platform team to ensure alignment between technical design and build of the Data Program and our Enterprise technology and BAU data platform.

This is a hands-on role, requiring expertise in designing and building platform capabilities and features in line with the roadmap driven by our transformation program, as well as ensuring delivered platforms are aligned with performance and cost KPIs.

You'll liaise with architects, infrastructure engineers, integration engineers, and cyber analysts, providing guidance on how relevant platform components/tools can be used to meet business outcomes.

The Technical Lead will work in partnership with other engineers and/or vendors but not have direct reports.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Oversee the design and development of scalable, robust, secure, and performant technology solutions in accordance with business requirements and the platform transformation roadmap, enterprise standards, and technology strategy for data applications and/or products.
  • Ensure delivery complies with enterprise devops practices.
  • Document relevant artefacts such as architecture, application design, and operations handover documentation.
  • Effectively communicate ideas, designs, and challenges to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Participate in agile ceremonies, where appropriate.
  • Platform thought leadership.
  • Platform handover to the BAU Platform team.
  • Operations handover for platform service management.

We're looking for a skilled professional with a solid software development background, demonstrable technical leadership, and experience working in complex product ecosystems across Azure and/or GCP.

Required skills and qualifications:

  • A solid software development background with demonstrable technical leadership.
  • Track record of developing simple solutions to complex problems using modern cloud technology solutions.
  • Solid knowledge and experience of development best practices.
  • Understanding of a broad range of solution architecture principles, designs, and patterns.
  • Solid understanding of Agile principles and DevOps practices.
  • Experience with working in complex product ecosystems across Azure and/or GCP.
  • Experience in delivering scalable solutions.
  • Extensive experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including services like BigQuery, Dataflow, Dataproc, Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage, and Cloud Functions.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure and networking concepts and infrastructure as code.
  • Knowledge of application operations processes.
  • Knowledge of streaming systems and their design patterns.
  • Knowledge or experience managing data platforms, visualisation tools, data management tools, and/or ML platforms.
  • Solid understanding of unit / integration / API tests, test automation, and TDD.
  • Good knowledge of SQL.
  • Understanding of non-relational datastores.
  • Experience setting up build pipelines.
  • Experience in setting up Infrastructure as code.
  • Understanding of secure coding practices.
  • Ability to make objective technical decisions where there is no clear correct answer.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity & changing priorities.
  • Enthusiastic and positive contributor with a self-directed and self-motivated attitude.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively with a cross-functional team.
